Internet Movie Data Base (IMDB) -- Duh!

The Criterion Collection -- If I had the cash, a lot of "The Criterion Collection" would be in the "Hollywood Outsider" DVD library. One of the faithful staff even tried to scam the folks at "Criterion" into sending us free copies for review purposes. Their response? "Ha, ha, ha!!!"... anyway, every once in a while, I go to their web site and look up Jean Cocteau's "Beauty and the Beast" (one of my favorite movies of all time -- okay, okay, so that makes me a little gay). They want $39.95 for it!!! Look, I might be a faggot but I ain't stupid! We at "HO" do have the very manly "The Seven Samurai" and there's no comparison between "Criterion's" product and other distributors. If you're a cinephile and have cash to burn then this has to be a favorite site. *** Look for "Beauty and the Beast" to be reissued in theaters this summer, mastered from a restored negative!

 
Sith Chicks Fanfiction Page -- A female only fan-site dedicated to the "Star Wars" films. This particular link will take you to the gateway to their "fanfiction" page. You must be 18 years or older to enter. Once there you can peruse 600-plus pieces of member-created fiction that takes place somewhere in the "Star Wars" timeline and with "Star Wars" characters. They are rated (G, PG, R, NC17) to help out those with thin skins or the impatient (me). The only real reason to check this stuff out is to read the wacky sexual antics made up by the "Sith Chick" membership.The best material is completely lewd, though, you will have to wade through lots of plot to get to the action, they are "chicks" after all. Our hats off to you, ladies! Oh, and beware the "slash" stories. You know how men like Lesbian stuff. Well, evidently a lot of women like stories that involve just men. YIKES!
Rate My Picture -- These picture sites really suck. "Rate My Picture" is just one of many and must be a nightmare for any parent of a teenage-girl, especially, if the relationship within the "family unit" is not so good. If you don't know, these are the sites where anyone can post their picture (and any other information about themselves) and have anyone/everyone "rate" their looks (from 1-10). This is insidious. I defy you to rate just one photo. I don't know about you, but I start developing an agenda, "Hey, I'm sick of beautiful women! All beautiful women are now getting a '1' and ugly chicks are getting a '10'!" Sort of a sexist Robin Hood-thing. If you tire of looking at people's mugs, you can go to other sites like "Rate My Thong" and stop pretending that this has anything to do with anything above the waist.
The Onion -- The infamous mock-newspaper is twice as good on the web. This site is a natural for cubicle-dwellers that need to pass the time on slow Wednesday afternoons. Ironically, their only weak spot is their movie review section. Instead, hightail it back to "HO" for your movie fix.
Edgar A. Poe's "Annabel Lee" -- Rhyming George Higham puts his money where his mouth is! Go see Edgar A. Poe's classic poem "Annabel Lee" brought to horrific... I mean terrific life in a George Higham puppet film. His website is the closest thing to a kingdom by the sea and the best place to find the very latest screenings for the hottest piece of animation since "The Tool videos"!
34 Satellite -- Groove to the def jams of 34 Satellite and dig Hollywood Outsider's free-est of freelance writers, Mike Santoro, as he slaps his funky bass riffs on the web's coolest MP3's (sorry about that Mike). Mike has toured with such bands as Whiskeytown, Amy Rigby and True Wheel (with ex-members of the Feelies). He's a Groovemeister extraordinaire and a gentlemen's scholar. In case your curious, he's the one facing the camera in the photo at right. You'll have to go to their site for a clearer, bigger shot.
Bitter Films Homepage -- Academy Awardİ nominated director Don Hertzfeldt's animated short films have collected 102 awards, four Grand Prizes, and a rather spooky cult following. The cartoons have been featured at the Cannes Film Festival, Sundance, Slamdance, MTV, the Independent Film Channel, the Bravo Channel, and several hundreds of film festivals in between. They are regularly featured with Spike and Mike's Festival of Animation. Check out these way-cool animations. "HO" gives bitterfilms our highest recommendation. A must see!
Brilliant Creations -- A must site for any fan of computer imaging. Ken Brilliant takes you through the ABC's of how he creates brilliant creations. Ken has worked on some of TV's most popular shows as well as movies. Check out his fantastic menagerie of computer generated creatures!
Samurai Jack -- Minimal dialogue, split-screen-comic-book-styled visuals, rich backgrounds based on traditional Japanese artwork and pulsating music makes "Samurai Jack" one of the best animated series to come out in years (since Mtv's "Downtown"). The story is basically the same as Frank Miller's "Ronin". "Samurai Jack" airs on Monday nights 8PM on the Cartoon Network or check out this site, right now!... and no, there is no connection between "HO" and the Cartoon Network. We just like what we like and wanted to share.
Desert Moon Periodicals -- "Delivering the small press and more..." since 1984. Desert Moon Periodicals is one of the biggest distributors of independent publications in the United States. Not too surprisingly, they have also distributed Hollywood Outsider.
Psycho Ex-Girlfriend -- "There comes a time in most relationships that one of the two parties wants to end it - and about that time all hell breaks loose. This is a great example of that hell breaking loose." I think we've all been on both sides of this one but it's up to you to decide whether this is funny or not. You either have to laugh or you have to cry.
Lizzie Grubman Funpage -- There's just something about getting behind the wheel of Lizzie's SUV and going on a joy ride in South Hampton. Bon voyage, white trash!
Westgate Necromantic -- The folks at Westgate have been longtime friends of "HO" and we here would just like to thank Leilah and Daniel for their gracious hospitality in putting up with "HO's" shiftless editor (Tom Graney) in his visits (bumming around) in "The Big Easy". Rotten.com -- One of the web's most unpleasant sites for four years running. If you're faint of heart or stomach skip this site (seriously). Their tag line is "When hell is full, the dead shall walk the earth." And they've got the photos to prove it! It is one of the best places to see celebrity mugshots which earns it a link here at "HO"! Enjoy the filth, you craphound you.
